FALSE BELIEF AND TRIATHLON

I went to see my patient dying from cancer.  She had been stable regarding her illness, and emotionally she accepts her situation.  Yesterday, she told me: “I was fine but now I do not feel well; I am tired, my family wants me to reinitiate chemotherapy but they don't know how it feels to receive it.  I am going to lose the bit of energy I have. I have to convince my family that believing in chemotherapy is not the way to go for me; improving my nutrition more frequently to have a better quality of life is better at this stage of my life and I know my body.

Due to cancer, she got removed her entire intestine, except 60 cm. of jejune.   She is being living in that condition for more than two years already.  In order to keep her caloric and nutritional requirements she needs to eat at least every two hours, and drinks water more often.  She has needed twice Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), because she is unable to keep up with nutrients when living a “normal life.”

My patient told me that a young oncologist, who takes care of her talked to her family and mentioned about the chemotherapy.  Not really knowing the damage he could do by transmitting “false hope” to the family.  The doctor mentioned that she could live four more years but she is exhausted just the way she is to go to the bathroom.  The family bought what the doctor mentioned and wants her to get the therapy.  Her surgeons, who surgically removed polyps on her 15 times in addition to removing the entire gut, told her not to get any chemotherapy from what happened previously when she became delirious for several weeks.  THIS IS WHAT IS CALLED LACK OF EXPERIENCE from the young oncologist.

In Mexico we continue to hear the sirens´ songs, just like my patient´s family, when we heard that for Rio 2016 they will create somebody to go to the Olympics from scratch.  I wander if this is stupidity, inexperience or charlatans making business.  This is damaging for the ones that are working hard; our team was twelfth place in the Worlds (one podium, one fourth and one ninth).  We are knowledgable and have invested many years trying to create champions:
In Greek mythology, the Sirens (Greek singular: Σειρήν Seirēn; Greek plural: Σειρνες Seirēnes) were dangerous and devious creatures, portrayed as femmes fatales who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. Roman poets placed them on some small islands called Sirenum scopuli. In some later, rationalized traditions, the literal geography of the "flowery" island of Anthemoessa, or Anthemusa,[1] is fixed: sometimes on Cape Pelorum and at others in the islands known as the Sirenuse, near Paestum, or in Capreae.[2] All such locations were surrounded by cliffs and rocks.

Playing the “pleito ratero” (see previous post, 23 nov. 2012 BIOLOGICAL PASSPORT AND TRIATHLON II. “EL PLEITO RATERO.”)  and being a champion was possible not too long ago.  It is not possible any more.  I can see that the chances of being a champion could be gone since we are five years of age if we do not have the proper education.
