Triathlon and “Universal Income”

It is a well-known experiment done by the Finns (some other countries have done experiments like the one below):

A nationwide, two-year pilot scheme was launched in Finland on 1 January 2017. In total, 2,000 participants, who were randomly selected among those receiving unemployment benefits aged 25–58, are now entitled to an unconditional income of €560 per month, regardless of whether they have a paid job or not.^[35] The experiment is supposed to test whether the implementation of basic universal income could help reduce issues caused by automation, long-term unemployment and lower wages. Especially people who are entrepreneurially minded, but at the same time afraid of not having financial security when starting their own businesses should be encouraged to engage in economic activity.^[36] In addition, launching the program of basic income nationwide could decrease bureaucratic costs associated with the Finnish current welfare system, which is both very complex and expensive to run.^[37]

The program mentioned above will stop because citizens paying taxes are not willing to increase their taxes to support the program.  The question is whether the politicians wanted the program for their own interests or because they believe in the program.  In other words, were they sociopaths or ignorant people?  These kind of problems happened when we do not have experience or when we do not read/study.

The same system is in place for triathletes in Mexico.  The State is paying for triathletes even though athletes do not train properly, and as a consequence they do not have results.  Athletes receive a sort of “universal income” showing up at events for marketing.  The authorities/entrepreneurs do not expect them to have results, so athletes are not well prepared to have them.  Athletes do not even think about training properly.  The purpose of having the athletes is for marketing selling events and merchandise.  The State pays the “universal income” and the authorities/entrepreneurs get the economic benefits from the events.

There is nothing new under the sun, but we should know that to have a real champion/athlete we need a competent human being and the system is not helping with that task.  In our case, we are dealing with ignorant sociopaths.
