Triathlon and the Hour Record Cycling

This is another way bureaucrats try to defeat us.  For years nobody tries to break the hour record for cycling because of its difficulties.  Eddy Merckx was able to power 485 watts an hour to stablish the record, according to calculations because there was not a power meter available at that time, using a 52/13 and high cadence.  Boardman using the SAME BICYCLES used today for the purpose of breaking the hour record was able to pedal 445 watts and pedaled 56 kilometers per hour.  Why are these bureaucrats giving away the value of breaking the hour record? Jens Voight (55/14, 102 rpm) pedaling 412 watts broke the record stablished by Merckx but he was too far from Boardman; HE WAS 5K SHORTER.  Boardman pedaled 64/13 and needed 103 rpm to go 56k/h for an hour.  I won´t talk about the Austrian who was 5k shorter and pedal 97rpm average for the hour using 55/13; this is a joke (bad taste joke), using a bicycle similar to the one used by Boardman.

We’ve even got into discussions regarding whether high cadence is needed to go fast.   Of course, Boardman with a 64/13 needed to go pedaled 103 rpm to break the record.  If you want to be really good you need to go high cadence.  Let’s not get into the trap of bureaucrats.
