Looking at numbers and knowing that good money was
available to competitors at The Island House Triathlon, we can say that this
competition becomes very important and promotes the best performance from
athletes. The prior year (2015), Javier
Gómez won the race over Richard Murray and Cameron Dye. Richard and Cam are considered examples of
athletes that compete to their best ability, as well as Javi. What do we learn by looking at their numbers
in this competition?
Cam should work on his running technique. He is a hard working athlete but strength is
not the problem, he needs to improve efficiency. From the records we can see that he cannot
perform running in a sprint or Olympic distance triathlons. His biking ability is easily compared with
the best we see in triathlon as long as it is not a course like the one in Hamburg;
he does not practice half a minute or minute all out. His swimming is not too shabby. Cam based on his biking ability was able to
take second in this year competition. He
spends too much time on the floor when running; it means that he has a poor
technique running. He practiced to run
faster (meaning short distances from last year) but he needs to practice more
technique to improve efficiency.
Richard is very predictable, runs the same after the
bike and from the three days we can infer that his mileage training is
high. He also needs to practice
technique while running; he has not improved for the last five years, contrary
to Javi. Javi and Richard have been at
the top of their game for many years without falling, and improving in
different areas. Running in the case of
Javi, and swimming in the case of Richard.
This is the kind of research it can be done in
triathlon which gives information about how to improve. This research is “real and useful” as long as
we have had reviewed the past very thoroughly.
We have done it.
