EARN MORE WHITHOUT GIVING UP YOUR WHOLE LIFE

‘’Do you work to live or live to work,’’ asked Ruth Montell in her article Earn More Without Giving Up Your Whole Life. ’’You may have to do both to be a top performer who still manages to have a personal life.’’

‘’The key is the ability to think long term: setting goals that allow you to vary how much effort your put at work, cutting back on leisure and family time when necessary.’’

THINK LONG TERM.
To get ahead, long hours will likely be required at some point, having a long term perspective help.

‘’Be clear about your willingness to ‘sacrifice’ some time at some period of your career, be clear about your values. YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL, BUT NOT ALL AT ONCE AND ALL ALL THE TIME.’’  (Nancy Hauseman, professor at the University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie College of Business).

WORK SMARTER
Being a top performer isn’t just about putting hours. Prioritize tasks.

GET NOTICED
‘’You have to have a reputation of integrity and ethics, and you have to build your team along the way as you climb the ladder, people who believe in you and trust you.’’ Joel Garfinkle excecutive coach

CAN ONE SEASON CHANGE YOUR LIFE?

''The question on my mind at this moment is:  Can one season change your life?  The next question is:  Is it THIS season?  While it took more than one season of training for the athletes at the Olympics to realize their dreams, it was being ready for that specific season that made it possible to make positive changes possible.''       Taken from our friend Glenn Mills www.goswim.tv
NEW YORK MARATHON 2011

''At this time of the year, the message I like to convey to swimmers is to act NOW to take advantage of the opportunity presented by a new season.   Now-- not January 1st --is the time for resolutions.  Think ahead to how you are going to approach your next round of training.  If you’ve already started your season, hopefully you did your mental prep work a few weeks ago but, if not, then at least you're physically ahead of the many swimmers who will be gearing up over the next few weeks.
The point is, you will have an advantage if, instead of plunging ahead with no plan, you take some time to chart a course. ''

''As always, begin with the end in mind.  How do you want to feel in February, April or May?  How do you want to feel and what skills do you want to have when you’re on the blocks for your championship race?''

Some reflexions for my boys:
''If you went to practice this morning, … did you push off the walls with streamlined hands and pointed toes?  Were you thinking about how your body moves through the water, and how your hands and feet connect with the water to pull you forward with more power and more efficiency?  Were you thinking about your breakouts, your first breath, when to time your first dolphin kick, or underwater pull, or first stroke?  Did you turn your head and take a quick breath, or did you know that you HAVE to get used to holding your breath just that extra instant…
Do you have a dryland program planned, have you or do you plan on including stretching in your routine?
How’s the nutrition going?  Are you studying hard?''

''With ONE YEAR of focus, ONE YEAR of commitment to be able to answer these questions in a positive way, you could potentially change the course of your life.''

''While that sounds like a big statement, I think that once you’ve tasted the success that comes with this type of commitment, it’s very difficult to go back to a standard way of life.''

Start today.

TAKING PRIDE IN THE AGONY

For my boys who are every day there at 7am, some day twice a day:

‘’If you're a competitive swimmer, what do you do to keep yourself engaged, and what's the sense that can keep you focused the most?  Agony.  I know... sounds horrible... but it's the suffering that hardens your body and soul to the point that you create a stronger human than you expected. …

Take pride in your agony, and seek it.

Agony is your quest, and if you picture yourself in a suit of armor coming to the pool, on a glorious white horse to attack your agony, and overcome it, and leave victorious that you didn't let it beat you... then you've lived the life. ‘’

COORDENADAS

‘’NOBODY EVER CHANGES WHEN THEY DO THINGS THEY LIKE’’ (Marina Abramovic)

‘’Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.’’ Georges Santayana

This famous statement has produced many paraphrases and variants:

``Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat their mistakes.
Those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors are destined to repeat them.
Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them.’’

NO SER IMBÉCIL...

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.” Albert Einstein

a. El que cree que no quiere nada…
b. El que cree que lo quiere todo…
