Triathlon and the Super League (3)

We have spoken about different subjects, we dealt with number 1) in the second post, previous post.  As we said in 1), this post is more for researchers:

2) Why swimming was much slower after the bike and the run?  Let’s take Richard Murray as an example and first day, he has the same time run-bike-swim than bike-swim-run for Richard Murray 22:09 and 22:10.  Why are we taking day one?  Fatigue is there, but we take the second and third rounds because some recovery existed between the second and third rounds, Murray posted the same time for the two of them.  Murray’s time did not change much in any combination biking (6K), at the end of the segment or in the middle of the segment.  His swimming time (300 meters) could change 40 seconds depending on whether he swims before running or after running.  Richard Murray is the perfect example to know about swimming after running and to see that slower swimming after running is a reality; it is not just our belief or our fantasy.  The difference cannot be explained only by fatigue. Running after biking is slower too, but not the same degree as running after swimming.  It is a one subject experiment that we should be doing with our athletes to see weakness and strengths in a real triathlon.  Are they able to run after the bike or the swim?  How can we improve running after the bike or the swim?  What is the threshold swimming or biking for the athlete to be able to run after swimming or biking? We can take Richard Murray as a mark for our own research. We still have the question, why?  It is not possible to know the why but we have some answers:  During running hypoxemia develops and clears up while swimming.
