Triathlon and Coronavirus III

We would like to speak about triathlon exclusively, but there are many things related to it, even when we have a hard time seeing the relationship.  Coronavirus brought the best and the worst of our repertoire as human beings.  Athletes left the team at the beginning of the pandemic, “rats leave the sinking ship first,” says the adage.  But they thought we were sinking.  If you see our previous post about coronavirus you will see that we stopped to rethink and to take care of important issues. Coronavirus destroyed Trump, it was not the Democrats or Trump’s scandals.  It was reality, coronavirus (something real and dangerous) showed what Trevor Noah says: “Trump might be even more ignorant than we thought.”  Bolton said the same and added:  "He’s corrupt and inept.”  None of them said something we did not know, but the coronavirus made it clear because our life is at stage, there is no time for doubts regarding what we see.  The same things for the politicians around the world, not to mentioned our Trump in Mexico.

The WHO made it clear that it is a political instrument instead of an institution based on science: 1) First the use of masks; they denied it and later accepted. 2) Use of steroid in coronavirus patients; they gave a categorical no, but later congratulated the British group for the research on steroid and coronavirus. 3) Mentioned that the asymptomatic patients “rarely” infected people; later said something to justify their lack of information.  The ITU gave lectures on triathlon for kindergarten but information was obsolete even for kindergarten.

Believing is what makes the champion, but believing in reality.  If we lie to ourselves, we are not able to improve in any way.  Coronavirus confronted us with our death.  Death is the point where we cannot lie to ourselves.  There is a joke regarding a patient who went to see a doctor that mentioned that he had cancer. The patient said: “Did you say Pisces, doctor.”  The doctor replied: “No, I said cancer.”  The champion should see and believe the reality exposed above.  We start from here to believe that we do the best training available and we should deliver that training based on sounded scientific facts.  You will find the information here.

I will leave you with Cerón, our favor non-african marathon runner, a real Mexican champion.  Just by curiosity, listen to the narrators' biases.

Triathlon and Coronavirus Treatment in Oaxaca II

We mentioned the reason why we post this subject here:  we do not have other place to post it.  Mexico is the third country in the Americas regarding the number of contagious people and respective deaths.  We are at the peak of the epidemic at the present time.  We come from this small city in Mexico and we speak about a village near Oaxaca where we follow up patients with covid 19.  Our friend is the one on the frontline, we just support him.  The price for each treatment is $5,000.00 pesos ($220 dollars), so people can afford it. $25.00 dollars for the initial consultation and the rest is for medications.  Close to 100 patients with covid 19 and zero deaths.
We can start talking why patients are not dying as it is the case in Mexico where mortality is around 6%.  Two things are present:
1)   Excellent service and follow up.  Timing is the key when taking care of patients.
1.1)      The protocol starts with routine laboratory:
CBC with differential.
Chem 18.
CRP.
Chest X-ray.
1.2)     Management will depend on findings.  Antivirals and antibiotics are given routinely.  Prednisone will be given depending on the degree of inflammation.  Prednisone because is the cheapest, it exists in any pharmacy stock, and it is well known to us (starting with 50 mgrs).  Heparin is given according to the situation (80 mgrs. of Clexane a day).

2)   The burden and stress of hospitalization is not present.
2.1)   Patients will keep moving to avoid atelectasis, thrombus and interestingly they have better ventilation.
2.2) Oxygen was not given because it was not available but we have learned that even when they have O2 saturation in the low 80, they can still move and they have a good outcome from what we know (no one has died).

Taking care of patients is similar to taking care of athletes.  Attention to details is important.  Athletes and patients should know that they are getting the best care available.  They have to believe in what we are doing.  Science as Albert Einstein puts it and it should be present: “Science is the refinement of every day thinking; common sense thinking.”

Triathlon and George Floyd

Why the title?  We have pretty black triathletes, they are Mexicans.  They could have African ancestries because we have a huge population of African Mexicans in Oaxaca.  Imagine one of the them winning the World Triathlon Championship in Australia, 2018.  She was one of the very few women of color.  The biggest racist manifestation was lived in Mexico not in Australia after she returned.  It is difficult to believe, but this is present in Mexico since the time the Spaniards arrived to conquest.  In this sense, George Floyd has died many times in Mexico violently and without violence.  Dying for native people happens in Mexico slowly with segregation, lack of opportunities and corruption; as it is the case of the Native Americans and people in the ghettos in the USA.  In this context, Floyd’s death happened even before the policemen killed him.  His chances of having a successful life were null because of his History, development and even his language (grammar).  Success in this context is “white,” success is a byproduct of conquering countries, industrial revolution and capitalism (see Johnson below).  “White privilege” is what made the Spaniards conquered Mexico; the advantage of feeling superior by God and the experience of merciless wars.  “If God gave us our color and grammar; we must be special and superior.”  This is what makes Jesse Owen so great, as well as our Cecilia; they were against the Gods.  They overcame a huge handicap when battling the “white privilege.”

We are working on how to be like my ancestries: “Holly people.”  We are working on our grammar.  “To speak of God as “He” misrepresents what I believe, but I am a prisoner of the English language, which lacks a neutral pronoun. (I refuse to speak of God as “it.”)… I’m not about to write a sentence like, “Here God tells God’s people that God will punish them if they reject God’s demands.”” (p. 18-20)

Discriminating because of the skin color is pure ignorance.  Ignorance and stupidity do not justify killing somebody.  The Nuremberg trials happened keeping this premise:
The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him.

We have many reasons to discriminate and skin color is not one of them.  We definitely discriminate people who lie like Trump.
